Three moments from his life
Out of love for his brother David, he came from Morocco to bring David's writings to print. At the front of Petach HaOhel, printed in Jerusalem in 1923, he placed an introduction of his own—one brother opening the pages for the other.
America offered the prospect of a quieter life of study. Baba Sali wrote to the Lubavitcher Rebbe, whose reply urged him to continue serving Sephardic Jews. He set the American plans aside.
In his nephew's telling, the song began over a meal. Baba Sali would write the words; his brother-in-law Nissim Amsalem would compose the tune. Their collaboration became Yodu Lecha Raayonai.
