Three moments under the chuppah
The chuppah is traditionally set beneath the open sky, "as a good sign, that their children be like the stars of heaven", the blessing Abraham received when he stepped outside to look at the stars.
Seven blessings are spoken beneath the chuppah. The last names ten words of joy, from gladness and delight to love and companionship.
At the height of joy the groom breaks a glass in memory of Jerusalem's destruction: "If I forget you, O Jerusalem." Even the happiest moment holds remembrance.
