Three moments from his life
After twenty years apart, he flew to Paris to meet his mother, Rebbetzin Chana. They returned to New York by ship: a shared voyage after two decades of separate lives.
Two days before the Six-Day War, the Rebbe urged his followers into the streets to help every Jew put on tefillin, above all soldiers heading to the front. Hundreds of thousands did, during the war and after it. A tefillin stand has stood at the Western Wall ever since.
In his eighties, the Rebbe began spending hours each Sunday on his feet, receiving visitors one by one. Each left with a dollar and a request: choose a charity, and pass the gift along.
